Jeep Project

This has been something that I’ve wanted for a long time.  I have always wanted a Jeep Project, something that would be easy to work on, as well as something to learn more about, as well as take offroad.

Let’s go back to the past

Let’s go back to the beginning.  When I was growing up, my brother had an old 97 Nissan pickup. we would take that thing off-roading.  It was something that he and I did all the time, and I enjoyed it.  Since that time, I’ve always wanted a 4×4 of my own.  Seven years ago, I had a Toyota 4Runner. The 4Runner was a 4×4, however, to modify it.  It would have been costly.

Last year my buddy asked me to go off-roading and I was all for it.  He had forgotten that I’m from the land of off-roading(Utah).  Trying to convince my kids, on the other hand, was a different story.  I had to tell them we were hiking but in a Jeep.

My kids went grudgingly, not knowing what they were getting into.  They actually enjoyed themselves, and have been bugging us to go off-roading again.

I found a budget build Project Jeep

Since that first couple of times, I’ve been looking for a budget build that I could get me and the girls into.  I started looking around for an old Jeep Cherokee(XJ) with 4 doors.  With Kids, the 4 doors make it easier.

One day, I was driving around and I found an old XJ sitting in the back parking lot of a dealer.  I pulled over and asked him about it.  It needed some work and some love.  My buddy went back and looked at it, and we were able to strike up a deal.

We got the XJ home and we started looking into it.  The dealer told us, that it ran, however, the head was cracked.  The engine was torn apart, and all we had to do was get a new Head Gasket and head. Once we had all that we could throw it all back together and have a pretty solid Jeep.

I’m looking forward to working on this project.  My plan is to turn it into an offroad capable vehicle that I can use in the winter.  I want to have the option of 4×4 in the snow.  Follow along and see what we’re going to do to this Jeep.  If you want you can leave a comment, or Contact Me.
